Peering – TV gets free advertising as the show gets passed around. However this is bad as some people don’t bother watching the show on TV and just download it at a later date which then effects later sales as there is no need to buy the DVD as they already have the episodes.
Free Creativity – parody series (e.g. Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged or DBZ Abridged) or clips help to give the original series some free publicity but the companies that make them some times don’t like the parody series as they see them as being in bad taste even if the jokes are the type that are simple and not actually offensive.
Democratised - Thanks to the internet and new technologies available to the ordinary person, people are able to share their views through the use of media such as videos and blogs but can also create their very own series on the internet free from the budgeting issues and control that the TV studios such as the BBC have.
Thinking Globally - This also fits into the above point as people are able to discuss their views and opinions on various topics. This has a negative side however as people can start to abuse this and their is a group of people known as 'trolls' or 'flamers' who deliberately start trouble on forums or comments just for the fun of it. It can also be used to out people for their views or preferences and can lead to bullying.
Perfect Storm - Through the contribution of technology, demographics and economics companies and media are able to succeed on the internet. Without one of these it is known as the 'perfect storm' as it is like a small fishing boat caught in a freak meteorological occurrence.
